Dental implants are designed to last a long time with proper dental care. Poor dental hygiene can cause your implants to fail. The buildup of plaque and bacteria around the surface of the implant can lead to inflammation. If the implant is not cleaned, then the infection can result in peri-implant disease. This disease leads to bone loss and will loosen the implant. If too much bone is lost, the dental implant may eventually fall out on its own. Regular mouthwashes are a good way to help avoid bacteria buildup. Therefore, there are a few types of mouthwash that you should add to your dental care routine in order to prevent against peri-implant disease.

Neem Mouthwash

Neem has antibacterial properties that are used to promote healing in open wounds. The antibacterial properties in neem oil can be used in order to prevent plaque buildup and avoid an infection while wearing dental implants. You can create your neem mouthwash by taking fresh neem  or neem oil and adding it to hot water. If you are using fresh neem, then allow the herb to sit in the water for a few minutes. Once the mixture cools, drink it without swallowing. Use your mouth to work the mouthwash throughout your entire mouth.

Myrrh Oil Mouthwash

Myrrh Oil contains antimicrobial and antiviral properties that are effective at treating infections. The myrrh oil mouthwash can be used to clean your mouth of unwanted bacteria. In order to make the myrrh mouthwash, add a few drops of myrrh oil to a cup of warm water. Use the extract to rinse your mouth thoroughly. You should use this mouthwash daily in order to get the best results.

Grapefruit Seed Extract Mouthwash

Grapefruit seed extract contains antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that are useful for preventing dental infections. Adding grapefruit extract to your dental routine will help to rid your mouth of bacteria. Grapefruit seed extract can be mixed with warm water. Once the extract is mixed in with the water, you can use it to rinse your mouth. Allow the mouthwash to sit in your mouth for a few minutes before spitting it out.  The mouthwash should be used in the morning and night to eliminate all bacteria.

Once you develop peri-implant disease a dentist will need to get involved in order to help clean the area thoroughly. In addition, you will need to get the implant replaced. This can quickly become costly and time-consuming. Use these ideas to help keep your mouth disease free.
